Step-by-Step GBP Setup

Go to business.google.com
Open your browser and go to business.google.com. Sign in with your Google account (the same Gmail you use normally). Agar aapke paas Google account nahi hai, pehle ek bana lein — woh bhi free hai.

- Video — You record a video of your business premises and signage. Takes 24-48 hours for review.
Pro tip: If you get the postcard option and the postcard does not arrive within 14 days, you can request a new one. Do not create a second listing — duplicate listings will get both suspended. Be patient with the postcard. Once verified, your listing goes live within 24-48 hours.
Category Selection Guide
Your primary category is the single biggest factor in whether your listing shows up for relevant searches. Google has over 4,000 categories — picking the right one matters more than almost anything else you do on your profile.
Rules for choosing your category
- Primary category = your core business. If you run an electronics shop, your primary category is “Electronics Store” — not “Mobile Phone Repair” even if you also repair phones.
- Add secondary categories for other services. You can add up to 9 secondary categories. Use them for things you genuinely offer (mobile repair, computer accessories, etc.).
- Do not pick overly broad categories. “Store” is too broad. “Electronics Store” is specific. Google rewards specificity.
- Do not pick aspirational categories. If you sell mobile phones but do not repair them, do not add “Mobile Phone Repair Shop.” Mismatched categories hurt your ranking.
Common businesses and their categories

Add at least 5 high-quality photos
Listings with photos get significantly more direction requests and website clicks than those without. Do not use stock photos. Take real pictures of:
- Storefront / exterior — so customers can recognize your shop from the street
- Interior — show the inside of your business, clean and well-lit
- Products / services — close-up shots of what you sell or what you do
- Team — a photo of you and your staff builds trust
- Logo — upload your business logo as the profile photo
